Summary: Manual Push Mower Review 2007-12-07
Comment: I purchased the Sunlawn 16" Reel Mower at the end of the mowing season and was only able to use it a few times but was very happy with the performance. I purchased it because my 9 year old daughters wanted to start mowing and I wanted a safe, clean mower. With little instruction, they were able to use the mower with much success. I'm happy with the way it cuts my yard. The only downfall is it won't mulch leaves and if the terrain is rough it doesn't do as good of job as my gas powered mower. Next Spring after initially mowing my yard with my gas mower, I plan on using the reel mower for the rest of the summer. I am tired of smelling like a gas can due to the smoke emissions of my Lawnboy mower. I am very particular about my yard and am in constant "fun" competition with my retired neighbors over who has the best looking yard. After mowing for about a month with the reel mower they were looking a little jealous with how my mower was making my yard look like a golf course. I would recommend this mower to anyone who is in good physical condition because it does give you a good workout, along with leaving your yard looking great. The assembly was also very easy.

Summary: Dissatisfied! 2007-10-01
Comment: We are very disappointed with Sunlawn's MM-2 (manual reel mower) performance and their level of customer service. We wish we would have purchased a different brand of reel mower. Here's why:
We purchased our Sunlawn Manual Reel Mower (Model MM-2) in mid-June 2007. The mower's wheel kept slipping without engaging the mower blade in early September. We called to ask about the problem and were told that the MM-2 has had trouble with how the gears were assembled, and that we would need to replace both "left" and "right" gears, which would be mailed to us.
Two weeks ago, we received two "left" gear replacements for our Sunlawn Model MM-2 (with no installation instructions), but not a "right" gear replacement. We called and confirmed that we should have received one "left" and one "right" gear replacement, which we were told would be shipped Overnight to us. We called last week to follow up as to when the part would arrive, but our message has not been returned. As of today's mail, we still haven't received the part.
We have been spending money in the past month to rent a mower while our 3-month old Sunlawn MM-2 is unusable.

Summary: Very disappointed in quality and performance. 2007-08-10
Comment: I just returned from the UPS store, returning the Sunlawn MM2 and grasscatcher. One day of use was enough to convince me it is not well made, does not perform as advertised, and certainly not worth the high price.
Machine construction: They advertise that the blades only need sharpening every 7-10 years, but I don't think the machine itself will last anywhere that long. The handle, tightened with thumb screws, is flimsy and rattles. The blades turn silently, yes, but the whole mower clatters along like a noisy metal toy wagon.
Performance: My lawn is "average," mainly a midwest bluegrass mix, both thin and thick areas. At the 2-3" height settings, it just randomly skips a lot of grass, like a squirmy kid's haircut. I chose this model because it could be set at close to the recommended 3" but it just doesn't cut the grass there. It does cut more at 1.5 inches, but still skips a lot. I went over the lawn 2 and in some places 3 times, and spent a lot of time doing back and forth chopping, still without much satisfaction. Good exercise, but I can do that with a cheap mower.
Before making the decision to return it, I went to the local home improvement center and got a Great States 18"reel mower that DOES cut the lawn, at 2.5", and cuts MUCH more consistently than the Sunlawn. Being of more sturdy construction, it is also quieter and I only had to make one pass in most areas. And, it was on sale for $79. This one, I'll keep.
Returning the Sunlawn thru Amazon was quick and easy, and free, like the free shipping I got in the first place.

Summary: Poor Customer Service & Not So Good Product!! 2007-07-29
Comment: I can't mow with it, or get assistance from Sunlawn! The blades seem to be milled improperly on the ends. This keeps me from adjusting the blade to the correct spacing per the owner's manual. Which in turn allows the grass to pull right through without being cut! I purchased this mower on May 15th. I finally received a reply on June 21st after many emails and phone calls. I was to expect a return label for the mower. It is now July 29th. No label. And, no response from Sunlawn. I've been using a reel mower for many years now. I heard so many good things about Sunlawn mowers; I had to try it. Too bad I got a lemon. I hope to get this remedied before the onset of winter. --Upadate-- Finally got the mower back to Sunlawn, but have yet to get my money back after one month and two emails.

Summary: 5 or 7 blade? 2007-06-10
Comment: This is a great mower. The Pacific Nortwest lawns may benefit more from the 5 blade vs the 7. When I ordered I assumed that the 7 blade would be more effective. It does fine, but some taller grass I have do do twice in opposite direction. The Sunlawn company does say that the seven blade is good for all No. Amer. grass.
I am faster with this than when I used my power mower. It is also great to leave the clipings on the ground. My grass looked better in two weeks.
I have a 4,000 sq ft lawn and I can more in two diecrtions faster then one with my power mower.
